Faculty Services: Course Reserves

Course Reserves Contact

For questions about Reserve materials, please contact libcirc@linnbenton.edu .

What are Course Reserves

Course reserves are a way to temporarily make available materials that students need for coursework, either required or optional reading/viewing. These are usually the books or DVDs listed in the class syllabus, recommended testing books for students preparing for an exam, or items students need to reference for an assignment. These items have limited checkout periods of two hours or three days, so that multiple students can access the item before an assignment is due. Reserves items are kept behind the library service counter, and may be restricted to library building use only. The library cannot guarantee the availability of materials when there is high demand. Faculty and students are expected to abide by applicable copyright and fair use laws.

Who Purchases the Course Reserves

Most of the items in the Reserves collection are loaned or donated to the library by a course instructor or an academic department. Instructors are responsible for submitting materials for reserve and for copyright compliance related to the materials. The library generally does not purchase items for Reserves collection, but in some instances, the library may purchase items for this collection. Librarians are responsible for the purchase decisions related to the materials in this collection. Priority consideration will be given to items that have been repeatedly requested by students.

How do I add MY Textbook to the Reserves Collection?

LBCC faculty may place items on reserve by bringing them to the Albany campus library or HOC library in Lebanon and filling out a reserves form for the items. If you wish to fill out the forms in advance, you can print the reserves form, complete and sign it, then bring the form along with your reserve items to the library. Library-owned materials may be placed on reserve by pulling the item from the stacks, giving it to library personnel, and filling out a reserves form for it. It may take several days for the items to be processed and ready for checkout.
