Tips for Success

  1. Know your assignment requirements such as:

    • Length

    • Number of sources

    • Types of sources

    • Citation format (MLA, APA, or other)

  2. Research before you begin.

    • Preliminary research will help you decide on a topic that interests you.

  3. Outline your paper. Creating a blueprint will help the writing process go smoothly.

  4. Complete additional research if needed. Be mindful of how many direct quotes you are using. You want your work to be your own thoughts, not just quotes of someone else's.  

  5. Properly cite all your sources.  

  6. Proofread carefully. Try reading your work out loud. You’ll be surprised by how many errors you catch!
